Dehydration Monitor Using Arduino Uno with GSM Alert
This project is designed to monitor key physiological indicators to infer dehydration and send alerts via SMS using a GSM module. The monitor uses sensors for skin moisture, body temperature, and heart rate to provide real-time alerts on an OLED display and via SMS to a predefined number.
1. Project Objectives
- Monitor Physiological Parameters:
- Detect signs of dehydration using moisture, temperature, and heart rate.
- Alert System:
- Notify users locally (buzzer/LED) and remotely (SMS via GSM module).
- User-Friendly Interface:
- Display real-time data on an OLED screen.
- Portability:
- Compact design suitable for wearable or portable devices.
2. Components
Microcontroller:
- Arduino Uno: Acts as the brain of the system, processing sensor data and controlling outputs.
Sensors:
- Skin Moisture Sensor:
- Measures moisture levels on the skin.
- Example: Capacitive touch sensor or soil moisture sensor.
- Temperature Sensor:
- Measures body temperature.
- Examples: DS18B20 (accurate), DHT11/DHT22 (temperature and humidity combined).
- Heart Rate Sensor:
- Monitors pulse rate.
- Example: Pulse Sensor, MAX30100.
Output Devices:
- OLED Display:
- Displays sensor readings in real-time.
- Example: I2C OLED (128x64 pixels).
- Buzzer:
- Audible alert for dehydration warnings.
- LEDs:
- Visual alert system.
GSM Module:
- SIM800L/SIM900:
- Sends SMS alerts when dehydration is detected.
Power Supply:
- 5V power supply or rechargeable battery (Li-ion or equivalent for portability).

Threshold Values:
- Moisture: <30% (example threshold, adjustable based on calibration).
- Temperature: >37.5°C.
- Heart Rate: <50 bpm (example for resting heart rate).
5. Circuit Diagram
Connections:
- Skin Moisture Sensor:
- Analog output to Arduino A0.
- Temperature Sensor (DS18B20):
- Data pin to D2 with a pull-up resistor.
- Heart Rate Sensor:
- Analog output to A1.
- OLED Display:
- I2C pins: SDA to A4, SCL to A5.
- GSM Module:
- RX to Arduino TX (D10).
- TX to Arduino RX (D11).
- VCC to 3.7V or 5V depending on module type.
- Buzzer:
- Positive to D4, negative to GND.
- LEDs:
- Positive to D5-D6 with 330-ohm resistors, negative to GND
